SS SLC Reflections

This is our first unit, inquiry into interest. In this unit we had to choose an inquiry question that interest our selfs, I chose how Iphone impact smart phone technology since 2007. We were assessed on taking research applying to a product, I improved on understanding advanced contents, gathering evidence, and explaining them while supporting my claim.

This is your third unit World War I, we learned the main cause of WWI and analyzation of WWI events. I learned how to maintain accurate connections between historical contents and events and understanding the impact of WWI to blood transfusion.

Art Clay Vessel Unit

In this unit I learned different techniques of shaping clay, understand how to scroll clay, and the correct steps of making a project.

For the Creative learning chart, I demonstrated being flexible because we were planning to have 1 sea star but then we noticed that it was too empty so added two more, even though it wasn’t on the brain storm sheet. I demonstrated persistence in active learning because we noticed that our model was lower than our plan, so we took the bumps off and did all over. While working as a group you need to contribute every body’s ideas so that its a group project and not a individual project.

Social media influence to teens

In this unit we media influence teen mental health, one of the biggest influence is that social media stand beauty standards, for example being white, being skinny, being tall. As social media kept growing these news evolved to trends which everyone follows, teens at this age who want to be the same as their beauty standard might do things that hurt their body. In addition, there are stigmas that shouldn’t been spread with out proof. Some stigmas might come form what your culture is, lack of awareness, and media representation. To reduce these stigmas we can have open conversations or presentations in school to let the children understand it is not that your abnormal or you are different from others. We can also include positive social media representations, by using the benefit of social media(influential) we can have interviews and articles about these disorders, this at the same time can gain awareness to teens and also adults.

To conclude this unit, we learned how important metal health is to teens. If we ignore how teens are feeling they can get certain dangerous mental disorders, for example depression, anxiety, bipolar etc. It might seem like they’re just sad, but what they actually are going through is negative behavioral changes, emotional distress, physical complaints, and relationship difficulties. 20%-60% of bipolar disordered teens attempt to suicide at least once in their life, more than 7% of teens who have depression died by suicide, and 7-10% of teens suffer from anxiety. I believe that it is VERY important to let teens know how important their mental health is, leading them to a right view of life.

How do cell phones impact teen’s social-emotional health project

In the previous classes me and my group has been working on whether cell phones should be banned in high school. We gathered evidence from essay, principal quote, and SAS ninth graders. We noticed that most ninth grader say that cell phones help but also distract them from their work while free time, various essays explain that 70% of high school students prefer using phones in school but on the other hand, teachers want students to not use phones. Looking through all these information we made our claim, the claim is Cell phone has both negative and positive impacts towards teen’s social emotional health— its usage should be continued in high school but the policy should be changed to a certain degree.

For next year, I think the increase of phone usage to me will not impact my EQ, my parents are also flexible on whether I use my cell phone on school for not. A way to keep an equivalent amount of phone usage and social time offline is that to set time limits, when using phones we can set a limit to specific apps. For me, I would feel comfortable studying with friends, so I would organize a time for me and my friends to study together and not just use our phones.

“The rates of anxiety and depression being reported were already rising and have been since the ‘90s… But I think that phones and social media have perhaps accelerated and exacerbated the problem.”

“Students have praised the policy, saying they’ve been less stressed without cellphones omnipresent during school hours.”

the crying banana cat from space

standard: I can develop a model of the earth -sun-moon system to describe seasons, moon phases, and eclipse.

guiding question: Why do we need special glasses to observe a solar eclipse and not a lunar eclipse?

In the model we made is representing why we need special glasses to watch a solar eclipse, as you see the black moon which is also a solar eclipse is facing the sun. On the other hand the lunar eclipse isn’t facing the sun, the corona of the sun surrounds the moon, which also explains why we need special glasses to watch a solar eclipse.

Making ice cream in science

In the last science class we make ice cream our selfs! It was really fun making it with friends. The best is that you don’t need to put it in the  refrigerator !!!!

  1. put a 1/2 cup of half and half and 1/2 cup of milk in a small Ziploc baggie.
  2. add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and 2 table spoon of sugar
  3. Zip the baggie tightly and try to get all of the air out
  4. fill  a larger bag with 1/2 of ice and 2 tablespoon of salt
  5. put the smaller bag in the big baggie, shake it for 8 minutes gently.
  6. take the small bag out and pour it in a small bowl then EAT!!!!!!

Race car experience

Few days ago we organized a car race, we estimated how fast we can finish the race by teams. In this project we used a lot of math strategies which are ratios, time estimate, etc.  Before the race everyone in our team timed ourself walking  7 laps, this way knowing the estimated time will help us more on calculating.

I think next time we could walk a little bit faster, because we walked really slow and in the race most of our time is slower then we walked during the practice.

Units are really important because my friend who didn’t include unites had a 6 minute difference from their estimate time, but we added unites and the difference from our estimate time was about 4 seconds.

Save the African Penguins

In this project me and my group made a nest of saving the African Penguins, we did this because in 1900s people started to take their guanos which are actually their poop. People kept taking their guanos which caused that they can’t build any holes for laying their eggs.  Now the amount of African penguins are down to 10,000 compared to 13 million in 1900s, they are not even 10% in the 13 million penguins.

In this project we used cotton, tissue paper, foil, tape, wooden stick, and felt.  We made a hole thats 6cm high 9cm long. Inside we put the cotton and a really thin pice of plastic because we  don’t want the penguin to feel hot in there, I put my finger in and it actually feels cold.  The total cost of our whole entire is $50. At last our project worked out really well.

Endangered specie : Sunda Tiger

This is a Sunda tiger from the wild. This specie is critically endangered now, their population decreased because of hunting, people hunt for their fur. I actually really like Sunda tigers, it looks really cool especially the pair of golden eyes. I really like it, I would want to see one in real life someday. This specie decreased a lot, in 1970 there were 1000 Sunda tigers but in 2020 there were only 500 left. 1/2 of the tigers died. I really wish the hunting would stop, not only the Sunda tigers would get out of danger  other endangered species would get out of danger too.

All About me

This is a post about me.  In this post I talked about me, what I like, what books I like etc. There is a photo of me when I was 11 and in the middle there’s 3 books I like the most.  On the right there’s 5 things I like and 0n the left there’s a little paragraph about me. As seen in the photo there’s 4 symbols that represent me.
