WOOP Goal Reflection

WOOP Goal:

My WOOP goal is about the healthy relationships section specifically “I am happy with my friendships and other social connections.”

Reflection:

Introduction:

My second WOOP goal is on me wanting to understand my friendships and understanding them more by talking to them outside of school. I was able to do this my simply talking to them more often outside of school as typically I only talk with them in school and by simply talking more I was able to enhance the bond we had.

Examples/Evidence:

One thing I was able to do was actually play DnD with friends, though still technically at school, this season of DnD had a lot of my friends join and DnD was able to allow me to talk with them strategize and understand them a lot more than I already did. For example, in our current campaign (spoiler warning) one of the new players escaped from his containment and when he did 3 of my friends immediately decided to attack him, this was really able to let me know that they think violence is a good way to let out humor (it was a tad funny seeing one guy escape and then immediately get mauled) but this moment was able to bring me closer with them and spark a memory that won’t be forgotten any time soon.

Another thing is how I have played quizbowl with other friends. (quizbowl is just trivia but with other rules) we were mainly running the Mythology category and this was able to allow me to understand just how much my friends were into mythology and how much I was as well, this was able to make me be better friends with them and overall was very fun to do.

Conclusion:

My wish was to understand and talk with my friends more often, I chose this because before I started working on this goal I rarely talked with them after school and pretty much only during school unless it was someones birthday. My steps I did to achieve this was to participate in more activities with my friends such as DnD and Quizbowl. An obstacle in this is how I am a tad uninterested in “hanging out” and would much rather just stay inside and read or watch YouTube.

Reflecting Upon Mental Health

What Did I Learn Throughout This Unit:

Part 1: Wellness Goals and App

In the first section of this unit I made a WOOP goal discussing my sleep schedule. I learned that the WOOP goal goal format is a goat specialized in helping me reach my goal as successfully and swiftly as possible, this is by sectioning it into 4 parts (W-O-O-P)

Wish: This is pretty much what you expect this to do for you for example mine was “Sleep before 11PM”

Outcome: This is what this will do for you at the end of this, mine was “Allow me to feel more energized for school”

Obstacle: This is a challenge that may come in your way, in my case it was “Watching YouTube for too long”

Plan: This is pretty much what will you do to not only overcome your obstacle/s but just a rough overview on what you will do mine was “Make sure to either set a screentime limit on Google Chrome or use Pokemon sleep to incentivize me sleeping earlier

WOOP goal format diagram:

After setting my goal we had to use an app to help you reach this goal for me it was:

I chose this app for many reasons, first it was because I wanted to sleep earlier as my WOOP goal implies and this was a sleep app that would incentivize sleeping and track my sleep. Secondly, I always wanted to try to use this app but I never did and I felt that this was a great time to start, and lastly, I love Pokemon so I felt that this was a far better way to incentivize me over other sleeping apps.

After using this for a little over a week I began working on an app review that you can find here:

This allowed me to understand that though this allowed me to sleep earlier, it also has addictive qualities that could be concerning in the eyes of many. Originally I thought that this would just be a fun app I could use, but now I understand that this can be a concerning app due to it having micro-transactions which can make it seem less concerned for my wellbeing and it’s incentives can also be too great making it addictive.

Part 2: Mental Conditions

Before we began working on this unit and discussing mental health I was quite inept at this topic, I was unaware of many stigmas on mental conditions and how people with these conditions have struggled. Now after this unit I understand these conditions such and what they are as well as the negative influences the media can have on these conditions.

We also researched about how social media can influence toxic diet culture. I learned how social media will make it look like these bad “diets” are required to look pretty, or your a disgrace unless you follow this diet plan. In reality these are not necessary and can harm you rather than help.

Mental Condition Presentations:

Before this unit I was unaware of the ins and outs of Bipolar disorder, I had heard of it briefly but after my classmate’s presentation on this I was able to understand how people say how this causes them to be “bad people” due to moments of mania.

OCD was also a condition a group of classmates presented on, they touched on how many people will say “I’m so OCD” and this is something I have heard as well, but now I think and know that this is an insensitive statement as many people who actually experience this struggle with it and saying it so willy nilly is neglecting their experiences.

One of the groups also discussed about eating disorders, this was something I never really knew much on as it is what I feel one of the least know mental conditions. I used to think that say eating too less is the only sort of eating disorders, but now I think that there are many different types such as, eating too much, and despising the taste of food as a whole.

I further learned about PTSD and the struggles and misconceptions involved, many people myself included believed that PTSD is caused only or mainly by war/battle experiences but that is in fact false, now I think that PTSD is a condition that has many factors that can lead to it many not war related such as abuse.

Anxiety is a condition I actually knew a lot about before starting this having researched it myself but I originally thought that these conditions wouldn’t have affected celebrities due to the appearance they show the world but now I know that these can be false personas or exaggerated ones and that in reality there are many celebrities that experience this.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, throughout this unit we learned about ways to improve our habits, how social media can influence teens, stigmas and stereotypes with mental conditions, and lastly details on specific mental conditions.

Science class for SLC

Evidence of Organization

Table of contents:

This is a show of my previous homework organization system. This one was bad because I consistently forgot to write in my homework and not do them.

This one was far better because I was able to see this every time I went into my desktop and I was able to do my homework a lot more consistently.

My science notebook is useful because it is able to help me keep all my science items organized.

Active Learner Habits:

Active learner Science Self assessment:

From all the active learning pdfs above you can see that I have been more able to turn my assignments on time then last year

Evidence of Understanding Key Concepts

My understanding of Key-Concepts is overall pretty good sometimes there is a failure or 2 but all in all I think I’m pretty good.

Evidence of Growth in Science Skills

Standard 1: Developing and Using Models

Standard 2: Constructing Explanations and Designing Solutions

Standard 3: Engaging in Argument From Evidence

Before:

After:

Standard 4: Asking Questions and Defining Problem

Standard 5: Using Mathematics and Computational Thinking

Standard 6: Obtaining, Evaluating, and Communicating Information

Overall everything has stayed the same (aka full marks) but in the CER section I have improved to full marks.

ELA Artifact 2

This is the assignment where we were required to hose a talk show where each of our group members play a role. I chose this as this shows my ability to effectively collaborate with my peers because we got a higher than meeting score. And also skillfully communicate my ideas as proven by my grade. I believe this to be an excellent artifact to show my learning in ELA.

ELA Artifact 1

This is the grade I received on my Unit 1 passport submission. The actual passport is here: https://saschina-my.sharepoint.com/:w:/r/personal/ethan04px2029_saschina_org/_layouts/15/Doc.aspx?sourcedoc=%7B7E84F166-4AE1-487D-B8D2-65DAF2422B5E%7D&file=Ethan_Hu_E1.docx&action=default&mobileredirect=true&DefaultItemOpen=1&ct=1738820517644&wdOrigin=OFFICECOM-WEB.START.EDGEWORTH&cid=86cc3b8d-b0dc-4648-b018-53c320e4b5e9&wdPreviousSessionSrc=HarmonyWeb&wdPreviousSession=084a6e6b-a216-4bc4-8a11-c047b9568051

I chose this as my first ELA artifact because I felt it showed my ability to be a creative learner. This is especially seen in the visuals segment where I was able to write a fictional story about the 2 visuals. I thought that these greatly showed my creative learning skills because I was able to creatively create a story that I found was great. I was able to complete the assignment while having a fun time by creatively going about my writing. For example, instead of analyzing a photo of Eric Cartmen I instead wrote about him going insane and “taking care of” all his friends. I feel this was a great artifact to show my learning in ELA.

Ethan Hu SLC 2025

The purpose of my conference is to have me explain why I am here and what I want to share with my parents about my learning journey.

I’d like to share:

  • What I’ve done and what I still want to achieve
  • Some areas of growth, struggles, and some of my work
  • My goals and how I plan to achieve them

Vision Board

Item 1: I chose to include Spanish flowers in the bottom right corner because one of my goals was to study Spanish more often.

Item 2: The inclusion of the Roman Coin was to show the person on it, Proculus, he attempted to usurp Rome in the year 280 AD this was a representation of me attempting to do good and get a 280 in my MAP test.

Item 3: My third item is the map of Africa and the countries there. I put this in because one of my goals was to get a 100% on the Africa Seterra quiz and I thought that this represented it well.

My Goals

Note: Above I have already stated my goals but this is a reiteration and more direct.

  1. Study Spanish on days where I don’t have Spanish.

2. Get a 280 RIT score on this semester’s Math MAP test.

3. Get a 100% score on the Seterra Africa quiz.

Transdisciplinary Transfer Goal

The TTG (Transdisciplinary Transfer Goal) I chose was “Creative Learner”

Images to Represent my TTG:

This represents it as in this assignment I was attempting to be a more Creative Learner with more fun and creative aspects and it turned out to be really good for me.

In this assignment I attempted to be more creative by using tracing paper and just taping it onto the blueprint, though in this case I shouldn’t have I still got a 3 (though I did ask other teachers if that was okay and they said it was so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

My Strengths:

A strength of mine that applies to pretty much all classes, is my ability to complete the work ahead or at least on time.

Another strength is that I put effort into the things I do, and attempt to do the things to the best of my abilities.

Area of growth:

Though I do complete the assignments on time it is likely after a stretch of procrastination.

I could probably spend more time studying before tests rather then other things.

Passion Project

My passion project is a LEGO map of Paldea. I chose this as I really like LEGO and I have a passion for Pokemon.

Closing

Thats all folks. I appreciate it.

Questions?

Health Artifact 1

This is my Wellness App Review. I chose this as my first health artifact as it demonstrates my learning of the subject as I was able to complete the criteria and talk about the design of my app. Furthermore, I was also able to use my WOOP goal (Wish Outcome Obstacle Plan) this was a key part of health class. The WOOP goal was able to better help me plan out how I would use the app to my best ability. I was also able to talk about how my app was able to use it’s features to trigger your reward system, further talking about what we already learned in class. Throughout this process I learned that, in order to have me possibly fix lackluster habits Pokemon is a great way to do that. This has opened a gateway of possibilities.

SS artifact 2

This is a photo of my debate, this was the second unit of SS. This demonstrates my learning and understanding of topic because we WON. Overall our ability to win was due to my partner and I’s understanding of the topic. We were able to complete the required things, such as the note taking and the actual speech docs ahead of time because of our understanding. Finishing early allowed us both to practice more and ultimately let us win. I chose this again because it shows how I am able to work with others (Effective collaborator) and skillfully communicate my ideas.

SS artifact 1

This is the WW1 simulation map, this was made in the first semester. This really demonstrated my understanding as with my assistance our team (ALLIES) were able to beat the central powers. Some challenges we faced were Germany’s stupidly high army and navy power, this led to many defeats but eventually through perseverance and dedication we were able to win. I chose this artifact as I think it shows my ability to work with others (effective collaborator) and my ability to think critically (critical thinker).
