L2: WOOP 2 Portfolio Reflection (20 mins).

Woop Goal:

The statement I choose is: My friends and those who know me well should say that I am a good and trusted friend. The best outcome will be that most of my friends are trustable telling me their secrets and can have a better conversation with them together.

I’ve been working to achieve this by not betraying my teammates and friend while playing video games and leaking secrets from my friend.

Thank you for listening to my progress towards my goals over the last year. Do you have any questions?

Understanding Stress and the Brain

I learned that stress is something everyone experiences, and it can happen for many reasons, like when I have a big test or feel worried about a friend. When I feel stressed, my brain reacts in special ways. The amygdala, a small part of my brain, helps me feel emotions like fear or anxiety. It gets activated when I sense danger, making my body ready to react. This helps keep me safe, but sometimes it can make me feel overwhelmed or anxious about things that aren’t really dangerous.

I also learned that the hippocampus is important for remembering things. It helps me learn and store new information. When I’m stressed, the stress hormones can make it harder for my hippocampus to work well. This might mean I forget what I studied or have trouble focusing in class. Understanding how stress affects my memory is important because it helps me figure out how to do better when I feel overwhelmed.

Another thing I learned is about the pre-frontal cortex, which helps me make decisions and control my actions. When I’m stressed, this part of my brain might not work as well. I might react quickly without thinking first, which can lead to mistakes. To help calm my mind, I can practice mindfulness. Mindfulness helps me focus on the present moment and feel more relaxed, which can improve my ability to think clearly.

I learned that not all stress is bad. There’s something called eustress, which is the good kind of stress that can motivate me to study hard or practice for a game. However, too much stress can lead to negativity bias, where I only focus on the bad things happening around me. It’s important to find a balance between helpful and harmful stress so I can stay happy and healthy.

Finally, I learned that building resilience is like making my brain stronger to handle stress better. I can practice self-regulation, which means controlling my feelings and reactions. Techniques like deep breathing, talking to someone I trust, or doing something I enjoy can help me feel better. By taking care of my brain and learning how to manage stress, I can grow happier and face challenges with confidence

Wellness App Review

Functionality

How the App Works:
Google Calendar serves as a digital scheduling tool that allows users to create, manage, and share events. Users can input event details such as time, location, and description, and set reminders for notifications. It syncs across devices and integrates with other Google services.

Ease of Use:
The app is designed with a user-friendly interface, making it easy for users to navigate. Creating events is straightforward, requiring just a few clicks. However, some users may need time to familiarize themselves with advanced features.

Complications:

  • Synchronization Issues: Sometimes events may not sync immediately across all devices.
  • Recurring Events Complexity: Setting up complex recurring events can be confusing.
  • Time Zone Management: Users may struggle with scheduling across different time zones.

Features

Basic Features:

  1. Event Creation: Easily create and edit events.
  2. Reminders: Set notifications for upcoming events.
  3. Sharing: Share calendars with others for collaborative scheduling.
  4. Multiple View Options: View schedules by day, week, month, or agenda.

Advanced Features:

  1. Color-Coding: Organize events visually by color.
  2. Integration: Connect with Google services and third-party apps.
  3. Task Management: Create and manage tasks alongside events.
  4. Customizable Settings: Adjust event privacy and recurrence settings.

Usefulness

Support for Personal Wellness Goals (WOOP):
Google Calendar can support my WOOP goals by helping me schedule time for my wellness activities. By setting reminders and blocking out time for self-care, exercise, or relaxation, the app can keep my goals front and center.

Developing Healthy Habits:
The app encourages the establishment of healthy routines by allowing users to schedule regular wellness activities, such as exercise or meditation. This structured approach can enhance emotional health and stress resilience by providing a clear plan to follow.

Improving Brain or Body Health:
By promoting regular physical activity and mindfulness practices, Google Calendar can contribute to better brain health and overall well-being. Scheduling breaks and wellness activities can help reduce stress and improve mental clarity.

Design

Human vs. Addictive Design:
Google Calendar utilizes human design principles by prioritizing user control and organization over addictive features. It encourages healthy time management rather than compulsive use. There are absolutely no addictive designed feature in this app while using.

Value to User’s Life:
The app adds significant value by helping users organize their time effectively, manage commitments, and prioritize wellness. This can lead to improved productivity and reduced stress.

Long-Term Impact:
Continued use of Google Calendar can lead to better organization and time management skills, healthier habits, and increased awareness of personal wellness. Over time, this could foster a more balanced lifestyle and enhance overall quality of life.

Conclusion

Google Calendar is a powerful tool for time management and personal wellness. Its user-friendly design, along with basic and advanced features, supports healthy habits and emotional resilience, ultimately adding significant value to users’ lives.

Welcome to Your New Portfolio!

Why have a digital portfolio at SAS?

Creating a portfolio, or blog is a great way to collect all the work you’ve done throughout your academic career. You can include academic, athletic, and personal artifacts or experiences that you want to share with a wider audience. This is a great way to organize all your learning in one place and you can take it with you when you leave SAS.  When you make your portfolio, you create posts that are categorized according to your subject. Some categories have already been set up for you, but if you need more categories you can add them as needed. It’s important that your posts have the following:

  • An engaging title – this should not include the name of the subject since this is referenced in the category. Think of this as the first opportunity to engage and hook your reader!
  • Body – this is where you share your learning. This should include a combination of text and media in the form of images, graphics, and embedded videos. You should always consider how your post looks to your audience. Is it engaging and organized? Do they want to keep reading?
  • Category – select one that has been set for you or add a new category. Posts can have more than one category e.g. Humanities and Myself as a Learner
  • Tags – create tags that can be used as keywords to describe your post. Tags help organize your post a little more! Aim to have 3-5 tags for each post. For example, if you are posting about a novel you wrote, you might want the following tags: #Fiction, #MurderMystery, #Theme, #PlotDiagram

Click on the images below to find a few helpful tips for creating your posts, adding media, and making categories:
