My goal is to have a statisfied amount of time that I spend with the important people in my life.
Wish: My wish to to be able to spend 15 at least minutes with my family every night. This is because I want to form a better realtionship with my family because I feel I’m not spending a lot of time with important people.
Outcome: This can help me develop healthy relationships with my family. This can lead to better communication within my family, and also lead to me having a more developed communication skill. Finally, this also helps me reduce stress at the end of the day.
Obstacle: Possible obstacles can be forgetting, or not having enough time due to things I have to complete.
Plan: Every night at around 8-9P.M, I can not go to my room immediatly, while going to the living room or on the couches because my family would usually be there. During this period I want to shut down my phone to limit distractions.
Examples of How I Worked on Goal
For example, I injured my leg last week. What I did was I stayed in the living room instead of going to my room directly. I was able to spend more time with important people in my life (Mom and brother in this case) to talk about how I could recover better.
Conclusion
I was able to spend more time than before with important people in my life after I started my Woop goal with a carful plan. This helped me create healthy bonds with my family which would be helpful.
The app is a to do list type app that is almost completely free. The only that need subscription is the list of things I have completed already. I am able to add sections and add assignments within the sections. The assignments can be set to a due date, and when the date is near, there will be a notification showing that it’s almost due.
Generally, this app is pretty easy to use due to the concise functions and purpose.
Something that I believe needing improve is the due date setting feature. This is because at most you can only set 4 days in time or one week. For example if today is Monday, I cannot set the due date to Friday nor Saturday and Sunday.
An advanced feture of the app is that you can set priorities for tasks. For example, in this, I set my band assignment to my first priority, and the Language Arts assignment for a second priority.
Photo of priority example:
Red represents top priority, Blue represents second priority.
The app of Remember The Milk does help me complete my WOOP goal. This is because my goal is to improve in stress resilience by creating a to-do list to help me cope and be less stressed about due assignments. The app is able to remind me and give me a really clear list of things I need to do and their due dates. This can help me achieve my goal.
The app helps me improve stress resiliance and emotional health by letting me procrastinate less when providing features such as due dates and reminders. Completing tasks before they are due will cause me to be less stressed and will help me improve emotional health overall.
This app improves body health by potientially letting the user sleep earlier. When completed all work/home work, the user will have less stress at work after school or work. Therefore, they would complete the work earlier with reminders and maybe sleep earlier which could improve body health.
Design:
The app uses humane design. It does not have any addictive design such as having sound effects and vibrations. I does not make our brain release dopamine because it doesn’t reward our brain a lot. The only part that can be a bit addictive is when the user checks the things off, the items will go to the “completed” section of the list, which might be satisfying to some, and might release dopamine and cause addiction.
The app does add value to the users life. The app can help the user plan out what they should be doing on each day, like the assignments a student needs to complete, or important dates that needs to be reminded.
The long-term impact of using this app can be leading to somebody being more organized than before. This might be caused by it having reminders for things that are due. Having a reminder can more likely cause the user to complete it compared to not having one.
Demonstration:
This is an demostration of how to use the “Priorites” function of the app.
I can know what is in urgent completion and what I could leave for later, this helps me plan a lot better with this function.
These are photos that demonstrates the “Due Date” function. After I set the due dates, there will be reminders before the due date actually comes. This reminds me of important assignments when I sometimes forget.
Evidence of Using it for 7 Days
This is the completed items that I have completed using this app. It shows the time on the right side for when I checked it off. I checked the first thing off of Feb 26(Not the first thing I checked off).
I cannot see the full list of completed items because it needs upgrade.
I learned that the brain of teenagers are not fully developed so it is hard for teens to control emotions, however being able to control emotions is very important. For example, we have the negativity bias, this causes us to focus on negative things even when we have many good things that happened. The negativity bias can cause us to develop a thinking trap, which can cause us to not want to try the thing that we didn’t do well any more. We can use mindfulness activities to control the stress that we have. An example of a mindfulness activity is journaling, we can also use the breathing anchor, which is letting us focus our breath on one sigle point. These strategies help us cope with stress. I also learned that the FFF triggers the amygdala, this causes us to not be able to make the right decisions, even when we are not actually in a dangerous situation.
The purpose of my conference is for students to explain why they are here and what they want to share with their parents about their learning journey.
I’d like to share:
My goals and how I plan to achieve them
What I’ve done and what I still want to achieve
Some areas of growth, struggles, and some of my work
My Vision Board
Some of the things included on my vision board are:
Swimming
Music
Assignments
These are important because I am good at these things and want to be better at them.
My Goals Are:
Improve in CER Writing
Have No Overdue Assignments
Improve in Math for exponents
Transdisciplinary Transfer Goal (TTG)
The TTG I chose to reflect upon throughout the year is effective communicator, which is to articulate my ideas in a group.
This is a group project that I worked on with my group. We were required to write a fiction essay and I helped my group by sharing ideas about the dialogue and the characters.
This is a project for Spanish that I and my partner worked on, we made a dialogue of 2 people discussing a picture. I collaborated with my partner by thinking of ideas and writing the last part.
Core Subject: Social Studies 🌎
Artifact 1:
This is a poster I made for social studies, we were required to work on a Inquire Into Interest project. I decided to do a poster about the Beijing Olympics impacts. I first started with the research notes, I made 3 notes from different credible sources, then analysed them. This is one of the times I had to do deep thinking, and this is one of the times that I used critical thinking in social studies.
Artifact 2:
This is my first time doing an API source analysis for social studies. API source analysis is used to determine the credibility of a source and API stands for Author, Purpose, and Intended Audience. Due to us required to use the analysis on every source in high school, it shows that I am preparing for high schools. This will help me be more prepared when i go to high school.
Core Subject: Science 🧪
Now I am going to share my progress in science.
Evidence of Organization
This is a picture of my Table of Contents.
This is a picture of how my organization improved during the semester.
My science notebook became more useful as the school year continued, as I took more care to add details and clarity to my work.
Evidence of Active Learner Habits
This is a picture of my active learner.
Evidence of Understanding of Key Concepts
This is 3 for 3 concept checks I have done in semester 1.
When I do concept checks, I receive scores of 2-3 most of the times.
Evidence of Growth in Science Skills
The standards for grade 8 science are:
Developing and using models
Constructing Explanations and Designing Solutions
Engaging in argument from Evidence
Asking Questions and Defining Problems
Using Mathmatics and Computing Thinking
Obtaining, Evaluating and Communicating Information
Artifacts Showing Growth in CER Writing
Before:
After:
These are 2 CERs that I wrote, and these are photos of the evidence section in the CER.
I improved in the evidence section for the Standard 3: Engaging in Argument from Evidence. This is because in the first CER, I was very repetitive when writing evidence from the graph. However, when I wrote my second CER, I didn’t repeat and learned from my mistakes.
I improved in CER writing over the first semester.
Core Subject: Math
This is a picture of some notes I take. This is an example of steps I wrote out to help me understand the process more and practice.
A graph I made for a project. On the x-axis is the days spent hiking, and on the y-axis is the distance that is hiked. There are 6 intervals that have different slopes. The purpose of this project is to help us practice graphing and writing out a report style thing.
Core Subject: Language Arts
This is an essay about moral dilemmas I wrote in Language Arts. I annotated short stories that are related with the moral dilemma of if I see a friend cheat on a test, should i report my friend or should I keep it a secret. After gathering some information and researching I started to write a 5 paragraph essay using the annotated stories.
This is the reading writing passport we needed to do for every class. Every class we spent the first 20 minutes writing a page of writing or reading for 20 minutes and writing a short reading journal.
EnCore: Band
I will now share my progress in Band.
Something that I am good at in playing the Clarinet is that I can play the chromatic scale very well. I can go up and then down for 2 octaves.
Something that I need to work on is being able to play the very high octaves.
For example in this photo the first parts are very high, so it is hard to be able to play them fast and correct in rythem.
In this picture the first measures are very high, so I need a lot of air support and the correct tongue position to make it work out. Sometimes I struggle to be able to play the notes correctly. So this is something that I need a lot of work in.
This would be the goal I want to be good at when the semester ends.
And in this photo, this is a photo of us in the band halloween parade. This is supposed to be a marching band, so it is a really unique experience of needing to march while playing the instrument. This is my first experience of needing to stand up to play the clarinet.
EnCore: PE
I will now share my progress in PE about pickleball. I had played Badminton before, and I had played tennis when I was young. I noticed that pickleball has a much smaller court compared to tennis and badminton. The court difference means that pickleball will require less movement compared to these sports.
EnCore: Spanish
This is a project I made with my partner in Spanish class. This is about the healthy habits we should practice, and the unhealthy habits that we should get rid of. We made a infographic or you can call it poster type presentation to convey our thoughts.
This is a discussion post about the verb DOLER, which means to hurt. I answered 10 questions and added the verb to the sentence after I conjucated it.
EnCore: Art
This is an textile i have made for Art class. The fabric is in light blue, and there are orange and turquoise on top of the light blue.
EnCore Semester 2: Health
This is the health “App Review” that I made for health. I chose an app similar to the to-do list, so I can be more organized.
Passion Projects:
I am designing a board game about Ancient Greece, it includes cards and a game board. The game board isn’t done yet, but the cards are here.
My Strengths in this year 💪🏻:
Some of my strengths are
Graphing in Math
Reading/Writing Passport
Researching
Areas of Growth
Some of the skills I would like to grow in are
Exponents
Geometry(Triangle Congruency)
Memorizing Vocabulary in Spanish
Highlights of the year:
My favorite day of the year was the bonding day because it allowed us to be playing and overcoming our fears. We also got to leave the campus which was really fun to do out-campus learning.
Closing
Thank you for listening to my progress in school over the last year. Do you have any questions?
I am proud of my Social Studies flip grid project. I learned to speak loudly and have eye contact with my audience. What I did was write the script, and then recording the video with my ppt on.
