WOOP Goal 2: Healthy Relationships

Introduction

My goal focuses on the Healthy Relationships dimension of the Wellness Compass: I want to feel comfortable sharing my life, secrets, and vulnerabilities with trusted individuals. This wish stems from a desire to deepen connections and overcome barriers to trust, which currently leave me feeling isolated or guarded. Trust is the foundation of any strong relationship, and by working on this, I hope to create more meaningful and supportive bonds with others.

Examples/Obstacles

Currently, I find it difficult to open up, even to those closest to me. For instance, when asked how I’m doing, I often default to saying, “I’m fine,” even when I’m not. This habit leaves me feeling lonely and misunderstood. On the rare occasions I’ve shared honestly, like confiding in a friend about a personal struggle, I experienced a sense of relief and connection. This shows that the outcome I desire—feeling comfortable, free, and relaxed after opening up—is possible. However, my biggest obstacles are distrust and a fear of awkwardness. I worry that being vulnerable might lead to judgment or change how others see me. These fears hold me back from taking the first step.

Conclusion

I chose this wish because trust and openness are essential for fulfilling relationships. Without them, connections feel shallow, and emotional burdens become heavier to carry alone. To achieve my goal, I plan to start small by sharing minor concerns with someone I trust, like admitting I’ve been stressed about work. Over time, I can gradually tackle bigger topics. Practicing self-compassion will also be key.

Health Unit 2 Reflection

Content

In this unit about mental health and well-being, we learned a lot about the problems that come with people not understanding mental illness. Many people feel embarrassed or afraid to talk about their feelings because they worry about being judged. This stigma can make it hard for them to ask for help when they really need it. We discussed how important it is to create a safe space where everyone can share their experiences without feeling ashamed. We also talked about in Asian households, mental health might not be taken as a very serious issue. By talking openly about mental health, we can help change how people think and make it easier for those in need to get support.

We also talked about how social media affects our mental health. While it can be fun to connect with friends online, sometimes it can make us feel bad about ourselves. When we see other people’s perfect pictures and happy posts, it might make us think our own lives are not good enough. This unit taught us the importance of taking breaks from social media and being mindful of how it influences our feelings. By being more aware of what we see online and focusing on real-life connections, we can help ourselves and others feel better about their mental health.

Project

In my research on PTSD, or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, I learned that it can happen to someone after they go through something really scary or traumatic. We talked about different types of trauma, like car accidents, natural disasters, and violence, and how each of these can affect people differently. I found it important to understand the symptoms of PTSD, which can include having bad dreams, feeling super anxious, or even thinking about the traumatic event all the time. We also discussed what makes someone more likely to develop PTSD, like having experienced trauma before or not having support from friends and family. On the other hand, protective factors, such as having strong coping skills, physical health and friendships, can help people heal and feel better.

I realized that PTSD can really impact someone’s life in many ways, like how they relate to others, do at school or work, and enjoy life. We learned about different treatment options, such as therapy, where people can talk about their feelings, and medications that can help with symptoms. I also discovered helpful coping strategies, like practicing mindfulness and talking to someone you trust. It was surprising to learn about the myths and misconceptions regarding PTSD, such as the idea that only soldiers can get it. This research helped me understand PTSD better and showed me why it’s so important to support those who are affected by it.

Math Artifact 2

This is my second artifact. This shows that I can consider and evaluate non-linear regression models and interpret and analyze residuals. I used explanations and critical thinking to support my claim of the best variable for predicting the number of rubber bands needed to explode my pumpkin is the diameter. To prove that, I used evidence like the correlation coefficient and the outliers to analyze if the graph or the variable was reliable or not.

My Goals for Student Led Conferences

Welcome to my Student Led Conference portfolio! This is my goals section. Below, in this post, you’ll find a collection of artifacts that showcase my growth, achievements, and areas for improvement since school started in August. I look forward to sharing these with you in person and to show you my plan for continued success for the rest of the year ◡̈ .

Creating My Goals

After brainstorming, I crafted my goals using the SMART goals strategy.

Goal 1: Get into IM3+ in 9th grade

Specific: I want to qualify for the IM3+ math class by achieving a high score in my current math assessments and demonstrating strong problem-solving skills.

Measurable: I will track my progress through regular quizzes and tests in math, aiming for a score of exceeding on all assessments.

Attainable: I will spend some time each day practicing math problems, seeking help from my teacher or a tutor when needed, and utilizing online math resources. I will ask Ms. Baldwin for resources and ask her to teach me what I need to know in IM3+.

Relevant: This goal aligns with my long-term academic objectives, as being in IM3+ will prepare me for advanced mathematics courses in high school, which are essential for my desired career in STEM.

Timely: I aim to achieve this goal by the end of the current school year.

Goal 2: Don’t procrastinate

Specific: I will complete all my assignments and prepare for exams without delay. I will focus on my coursework, especially in subjects where I struggle.

Measurable: I will finish all of the work due that day and also dedicate two hours each day to studying for my classes.

Attainable: I will start with one hour of focused study each day, gradually increasing to two hours as I build my concentration and routine.

Relevant: This goal is important for me to meet my parents’ high expectations and achieve my academic aspirations. Reducing procrastination will help me improve my grades and reduce stress.

Timely: I aim to significantly reduce my procrastination by the end of the semester. I will check my progress every two weeks to evaluate how well I’m sticking to my plan and make adjustments if necessary.

Goal 3: Get more exercise

Specific: I will go badminton classes to work on having agility and speed. This can also improve my healthiness

Measurable: I will go to class every week, and hour per class.

Attainable: I enjoy playing badminton so this goal is very feasible for me.

Relevant: Exercising regularly will help me improve my energy levels, reduce stress, and maintain a healthy weight.

Timely: I will maintain this habit until the end of the school year.

TTG Artifacts

Creative Learner

This shows the TTG goal of creative learner, as I used creative little animations by utilizing the app keynote to enhance the presentation of my understanding of Earth’s systems and the things we learned in Science Class. I learned that this approach not only reinforces my understanding but also captivates my audience, making the information more memorable.

Critical Thinker

This is an CER I wrote for Science. I demonstrated my critical thinking skills by carefully analyzing the data and evidence related to the reintroduction of wolves in Yellowstone. I connected the cause-and-effect relationships between wolf predation and changes in elk populations, vegetation, and riverbank stability. This process allowed me to construct a well-supported argument that considers both biotic and abiotic factors in the ecosystem.

Chinese Artifact 2

This is another presentation on Sichuan Opera which we took less time on than the Chinese wooden structure presentation. Sichuan opera is a traditional Chinese performance from Sichuan province. It is known for its colorful shows that combine music, acting, and acrobatics. A special part of it is face-changing, where actors quickly change masks to show different emotions. By researching more about Sichuan Opera, I learned more about Chinese culture itself.
