Unit 2 Health Reflection

I used to think that mental health meant that it only effect you mind/brain. I also though that there was only 1 type of mental health disorder, and that mental health was just depression and that you would get over it in a few days

But now I think that not only can mental health effect your mind, but it can also effect you body and you every day life. I also learned that there are multiple type of mental health disorders, and that there are mental health disorders that can last multiple years. On the outside it might might seem like they are just a normal person, that they don’t have any mental health disorders. But in the inside you actually don’t know what there going through, it might sound like it is very easy to cure, and its not that bad. But when your actually experiencing it you struggle.

Science

Evidence of Organization

In the beginning of the year I didn’t take much care of my science notebook, there would be lots of spaces between my notes, and wasn’t really using the whole page. As the year continued on, when I was trying to find my notes it was hard for me to find my notes. Which taught me to be more organized with my notes. My science notebook became more useful as the school year continues, as I took my care of the notes I added to the note book and added it to my table of contents. When I needed to find notes for a earlier lesson, I was able to go back to my table of contents and find the notes that I needed.

 Evidence of Active Learner Habits

After reading through the comments that Mr.Tafel left for me, in semester 1 something I could keep on working on is adding more specificity to my CERs.

Evidence of Understanding of Key Concepts

As shown here I usually get 2’s for my 3 for 3’s, so this part of science is something I still need to work on for the rest of the semester.

Evidence of Growth in Science Skills

  1. Developing and Using Models
  2. Constructing Explanations and Designing Solutions
  3. Engaging in Argument from Evidence (CER)
  4. Asking Questions and Defining Solutions
  5. Using Mathematics and Computational Thinking
  6. Obtaining, Evaluating, and Communicating Information

In the beginning of the year I was still learning how to write a CER, so my evidence wasn’t really that strong. I lacked specific evidence from the sources. After that I started learning from other what strong specific evidence looked like. So for the future CER’s that I did i always remembered to state specific sources from the text.

Pickleball Unit

When I first started playing pickleball, I was really bad at getting the ball. My serves were not served into the correct place and I missed easy shots. However, with practice and hard work, I slowly got better. With my partners help I started to enjoy the game more. Now, I’ve improved and happy to keep playing.

WOOP Goal

Throughout this unit I learned more about how our amygdala gets triggered which makes me understand more about how I feel sometimes whether its feeling stressful or happy. This is because the limbic system controls emotions and motivations form deep inside the brain, and a key player of the limbic system is the amygdala. In this unit we also learned to find our breath anchor. So when we the amygdala is triggered we can breath thought our breath anchor which can calm us down and activate our parasympathetic nervous system.

Integrated Mathematics 8 Semester 1

1. Active Learner Habits

Describe three strengths you bring to math class.

One strength I bring to math class is collaborate well with others, no matter who I get put with on a table, I can always discuss things and collaborate well with others. Another strength I bring is staying organised in my notebook so I can find notes easily. A third strength I bring is having a positive attitude that creates a good learning environment for everyone around.

Area of Growth
Identify one Active Learner habit you want to improve during second semester.

One habit I want to improve this semester is asking the teacher questions when I need help. This is an area of growth for me because when I don’t understand something, I don’t ask the teacher for help.

Plan for Growth
Explain how you will work on improving this habit.

I will work on this habit by being more confident in asking questions when I don’t understand.

2. Math Notation and Communication

Reflection:

Over time, my math notebook shows that my work has become more organised over time.

3. Evidence of Understanding of Key Concepts

Choose two examples of your math learning that highlight your strengths and growth.

One math learning that highlights my strengths is the Design a Story Problem. I was very fun working together with Zoey, we helped each other understand the task and helped each other through solving the problem. We double checked and corrected each other work multiple times. We were able to correctly identified each interval, calculated slopes using two points and write equations in both slope-intercept and point-slope form.

Final Reflection:

After both examples, write one sentence describing your overall understanding of key math concepts.

Overall, my work shows that I can work well with others to solve math problems. The examples provided highlight my progress and improvement in understanding mathematical concepts and applying them to real-world scenarios.

Unit 2 Reflection & Semester Check-In

This portfolio post has 2 parts:

Focus more on the parts that Im not that confident about and checking my work to make sure I did everything and got it correct.

  1. What might get in the way of this goal?

By study more of the things that I need to work on.

  1. What will I do if I get stuck or need help?

By talking to adult or the math teacher and ask for help.

Designing a Story Problem (Piecewise Function Project)

Our story was about this girl called Lamara, her parents didn’t her use their American Express black card and cut her allowance to $1000 for Lululemon and $500 for sephora. So she started doing social media to earn money, but she got caught spending the money instead of donating it to the African penguins. So, in the line graph that we made we showed her expenses and how much she made. I am most proud of creating the story. The hardest part of creating the piecewise function was doing all the calculations. We had to redo the calculations so many time because we sometimes had to change the graph and there were also different was to look and understand the graph so we were a bit confused. If I could change one thing, maybe we could make the question and the story clearer so it would be easier to understand and easier to create the graph. This project really helped me understand and practice calculating the slopes in different ways.

Mixed Media Self-Portrait

I want my artwork to show my personality, identity and interests. I used sea shells to express my love for the ocean. The colors pink and gold represent warmth and happiness. I want my audience to feel joy and a connection to my work.

During the creation of my artwork, I took used new materials to make symbols, I incorporated elements like sea shells and strawberries i to add depth and interest. This helped me express my personality and effectively communicated my intended message.

Robotics

In the robotics we got paired up with a partner and we had 3 part to this unit, controller, wall racer, and stacking challenge. For the controller part of the unit, we had to add gear to our robot so it could have the fastest time to go around the classroom. For the wall racer part of the unit we had to create a code so the robot would go the wall and once it touches the wall it has to come back to the starting line. Lastly for the stacking challenge, we had to rebuild the whole robot to how it was in the beginning and then build a claw for the robot so it could pick up the blocks and stack them. For the wall racer I think I could work on the coding better, because our robot kept on spinning in circles instead of going straight.
