I used to think that tech and media had a little impact on our mental health, however now I think tech and media not only had a pernicious impact on our health, but it also resulted in harm of self-esteem and unrealistic values and standards. In this unit we prioritized on learning about the eating disorders, and in this unit we presented and debunked some myths, impacts of eating disorder, and most importantly the variety of symptoms. Speaking about myths there are 3 myths that I think is requisite to debunk and reveal what the truth really was. Firstly, the myth on how they think it is not important, however I tell you that in contrast it is something you have to view importantly simply because how the fatal rate is over 5%. If, it is simply treated as a sickness fatal rates will grow exponentially. Then, you also see the myth on how it is just about food which is relatable, but alot of times it could be influenced by social media and many more because of those unrealistic standards. On the other hand, other than all of these social media influences there are also these affects that there profession will bring to these people the stress for there body and as a consequence eating disorder. On top of that, we also have the myth on how it is only caused by social media. this is debunked as previously mentioned that there are also professions and many celebrities also have eating disorder so it is not solemnly caused by social media but there could be many other facts that could have an affect on it.
Furthermore, there are also symptoms of eating disorder, this looks like digestive problems. Many times though it does not have a strong coalition with the problem of food but it still has digestive issues that would cause it harder for you to persue normal life. Other than that, there is also anxiety and depression and they will suffer while going through eating disorder which are really detrimental to there mental health. You also see that only 20% of all eating disorder patients get actual treatment and many more could just be unaware that they have such a disease.
In class, we talk a lot about how looking at social media has a strong coalition in sleeping and self-esteem. Noticing all the graphs that we looked at showed a trend that as social media rises as a whole and more users were using it the trend of lower self esteem as had a similar relationship with the graph.
When you first go on the App store and download the app you would realize that it would take you 6.99 dollars approximately and so every benefit of this app I will take into comparison of is it worth this price and then talking about its conveniency and ect. So, before I move on quick introduction this is app aiming for a couple of goals for its user and I could also feel these features significantly too. It is really simple its pages not having too much buttons to click on but one big goal that the app is trying to impliment is reasy to access, promoting motivation to work or study, and last but not least, make you locked into what you are trying to do and to not be easily dream of or get distracted. I see this being done through a couple of ways you see that they first put off a sound that you could choose to put on when you first install it. Then, it has this locking in button or option allowing you to only be allowed to open this app until you stop the timer. Then you might be wondering why don’t I just close the timer then now you might be wondering why is it called the forest app. This is a app that suggested by its name requires you or motivates you to compete and plant forests. For example, you set a timer to learn for an hour. If, you stop in the middle no matter if its for replying to messages or what you have to turn of the app or turn of the timer. However, if the timer is not fulfilled and your targeted time to learn is not reached than you will recieve this non fully grown plus dead small tree. This is a major reason why many people are incentivised to not close the app whenever they want. Many times what you also notice when you use this app for a day or two you realized that it just naturally becomes easier to motivate yourself to compete with others in order to be more motivated to learn more. After that, you might wonder then why would you learn during this. This is when the lock in feature comes into handy. Now, noticing that my WOOP goal is related where it is to prevent myself from being distracted easily from social media and also to be less addicted to games. This is where the lock down feature prevents you from looking at your phone and so during this time you could be only studying or at least not looking at your phone and ding something meaningful since you would not have alot of other alternagives to do (such as playing games). Back on track, so is it convinient? I do think that the app is really simplet use not as much different buttons or really complex to understand but the way that it encourgaes you to continue is really special and effective. However, on the other hand I also realize some complications that this app has that makes stuff complicated why is there such a coin system and it is not as consistent as the amount of coins coming out from each practise time or session that you have. Why is this coin required if everytime you plant you could just have a tree. Why do you have to have a coin buying system thought it might be in the progress to make money but it is still highly inconvinient since it is ineffecitve and I believe if each time you start your session and start learning I think making it more random of each time what seed or tree you had planted would be much more random and fun andfurther proves an incentive that people have for exmaple some people might want to collect all of the different tree types and so by making it randomized makes it more harder to get different tree types and so required more time studying needed in order to have more types of different trees or plants in your “garden”. Last but not least, lets have a quick conversation on the apps basic and advanced features.I think some basic features would be the count down and to wait for the timing and the session to end. Where, I think some more advanced feature that you need time digging is to how to change the lock down features to your favor so that after you lock down you could still have the call app open so that you don’t miss any urgent calls where you could go change in settings or the phone and the app itself. Another advanced feature is the planting system where it is sometimes hard to see how the whole system works because it is quite complicated on tbhe different branches of the system and the varieties and the coin system chained together.
Usefulness
Yes, the app really does support my WOOP goal. My WOOP goal surrounds the ideal that I’m too addicted to my phone and ect. I belive that alot of times me being distracted and being too taken away by my phone is a result of a couple of reasons. One ley reason that I think this relates to is sometimes I’m not as motivated as finishing a homework that is due next week and working on it today. This is because I’m. Putting too mjuch pressure on my future self and belieivng that my future self could have everything done without a problem which is a key problem because it is putting pressure stress on my future self where I could’ve chosen to just work on it now. Where this wellness app completely solved this problem,. SImilarily to the Duolingo points system this wellness app chanted the Duolingo points into the forests that it could build. It builds its fun on learning and most importantly motivating and to compete with your friends who has the most builtiful most dense forest and which is the worst. This motivated people to consistently continue using the app and to stop using my phone. My phone usage time for this week really decreased alot showing my imporvment and my growth after using the app last week. This app promotes less screentime and so through using my screen less I could communicate in person more and to social and connect more and so I will result in a better mnetal being by communicating more benifitng my communication skills and also using my eyes more and so that I rest my eyes more also I could finish more homework and before the due dates and so resulting in better active learner scores. Also, I could have less stress on me and without this app I would have all my homework done at the last day before the due date and so by using this app I will be reducing alot of stress and the harms of distress is significant and so I could prevent all the distress that might happen on me and result in a brighter outcome for my mental self and my phyisical self.
Design
I think that the design of the forest or the wellness app is quite addictive and is really humane for a couple of reasons a lot of times if you want to lock in to work you will feel the random urge to use the app in order for you to lock in a and learn good(efficiency). I also realized that this app is really simple and easy and many times I feel like it is really convinient and easy to control so I used it since there is little harm that is noticeable about this app doing to you. As a user of this app this really benfiits my life by making me get off my phone in ocmpairsion without my phone. Then, you also realize that after my homework is done my mom would not waste time criticizing me for not doing homework when there is still homework yet done. This app also significantly reduces my stress levels because I’m not as stacked as before and does not as much homework required to do all at once. This results in a much more flexible schedule and I’m able to have more social times and would have better active learning grades overall and will benifit me and prepare me for my future education career. Last but not least, what are some big long term impacts that this app will bring me. Firstly, in my future career whatever it would be I would most likely start developing a habit that will allow me to bring to my future life. This means that I will be more organized with my schedulling and will be bring my materials constantly. I will also my stress levels will be reduced leaving me more prepared for potential challenges and allowing me to accept a more wide and flexible schedule.
In this unit we learned many essential parts of the brain that each has its own job. They are the key oponents why we will react, have emotions, and have specific responses to a variety of situations. A couple of key components and parts that we learned that really made a difference is the prefrontal-cortex, limbic system, hippocampus, and the amygdala. There are different reactions that these systems will set off and some examples would be you feeling nervous, you sweating, when you are you should run and ect. Now starting on with the prefrontal-cortex. This is the part of the brain where your reactions and decision making happens. A important fact that we learned is that this brain part is not developed until around when your 20 years old. So, before this time when your a teen or a child or even a young adult you will be weaker in comparison to a fully developed one in terms of your decision making and reason making abilities. This is seen through the lends when you realize why many times in different countries younger children or teens are not allowed to learn or drive. This is because because your underdeveloped prefrontal-cortex your ability to decide if you should just go through a traffic light when it turns yellow or should you just stop. Clearly, a young teen with a underdeveloped prefrontal-cortex will choose to just run through without thinking twice while a fully developed one will think twice and will do the reverse. On top of that, we have the limbic system this part of the brain is primarily set up to care for the emotions that you have. For example, whenever you are sad, happy, disgusted, ect. All these emtoions are the result of your limbic system. However, it also links with your ability to memorize stuff but the major ideal that it really puts in is the emotions. Up next, we have the hippocampus, it is focusing and prioritizing on memory, learning, and emotions. This is fully developed till the tenn ages. Anything related to learning and related are key in this part of the brain. Without this it would be nearly impossible for you to learn. Last but not least, we have the amygdala it is meant to make us learn and primarily to control our emotions. When you smile, laugh, sarcastic everything related you use as you react to something on your face or what you say as a reaction to something is from here.
Then, we realize that in life many times we feel stressed out and could be a result due to various reaosns. It could be the over work load. It could be your overload of homework. It could be family issues and amy more. However, you would realize right before you go on to give a public speaking event you feeled stressed out, sweating in your palms, feeling the urge to run away. This is the FFF response or also called the Flight-Fight-Freeze. This is a system that is built in your body ever since we existed. Before we can run before we can walk on two foot it was a conjecture that it might be because our ancestors evolved through hundreds of generations to develop such a feature to face emergency situations. This is a system that goes off like a fire alarm when there is a fire and in this situation it is the danger that you sense that sets it off.
Starting us off lets talk about stress. This is something that I had mentioned several times through this post. Now, in your daily routine do you find any odds that is happening something that you feel liek you can’t handle. This is alot of times the start when stress happened. when you overload the capcity of work your are adapted to it would be a hard time for you to adapt to it and commonly resulting is distress. But, before I move on I would like to quickly make clear what are the differences. Stress something that commonly known as something negative is not always what you think it really is. Stress could be both positive and negative. Some stress might even positively affect your efficiency in completing work and ect. However, overloads and over amount of stress will commonly result in fragile emotions, and release of hormones such as cortisol. This is a hormone that will damage your brain permanently and could cause many downturns. Returning back on track, a positive stress that I’m now gonna introduce is eustress. This is when the work being given is slightly harder, but work loads given is still managable will result in stress but it would be a reasonable amount that will increase your efficiency.
Right, so now realizing soo much harms that negative stress or distress will bring to your body. you must be wondering how should and can I deal with it. Now I think it is essential to introduce to you two strategies. Firstly, the resilience is important where through building reslience you can go through tough schedules and seemly impossible situations and still be able to go through it with a hgih fleixibility. This is done through daily activities such as yoga, listening to music, exercising, and many more. These are all great strategies to achieve resilience and achieve a more flexbile self. Next on, we have the strategy to be minduful of your surroundings and yourself. It could make you locked in and to be more focused on what your working on. It will further more strengthen your efficiency and makes you focused on status quo instead of the future. It will also prevent you on putting too much pressure on your future self. This could be done through naming your own thoughts and feelings.
Finally, through this unit I learned alot for erxample learning how would stress affect us. I also learned how to coop with stress and how to turn my distress to eustress. I also learned different cooping strategies with stress overall. This unit really helped me to reduce my stress levels and my ability to react to different situations.
Now I am gonna tell you how is the race car made, and what are the materials and last but not least how are the math included.
First, the race car was made in 5 steps. First, we got a recycled card board and built a bird. If, their was card board sticking out at the back of your big card board. Then please cut it out. Then cut the cutted out piece or cardboard to one half. Then you could use some cardboard techniques to make the card board stick harder to the two sides of the cardboard. Last but not least, you could start decorating it with some seabirds. In fact, you could also add some drawings and a paper that has a color of your choice. And use a hot glue gun to stick it on the car.
Now, the materials we used includes, paper, carboard, hot glue guns, scissors, markers, and finally some tape.
The math included is where if we know the length of the track. And we also know the ratio per second to the meters a person could walk. We had to calculate on average how much on the ratio how much time would it take for us to walk on a same speed we did originally every ten meters. Then we caculated how long time would it take us to finish the track without trying at first.
i think we did well on the caculations. But, we need to work way more on controlling our speed on the same paste. We walked way to slow then we walked too fast. So, I think we should have some delays on our estimation.
I am designing a box for our project on our board games. This is the box to put our finished board games in. This is to make us carry the board games around more easily.
We used recycled materials such as cardboard.
We used cutting knives, hot glue guns, and recycled cardboard and then we also used sharpies.
So, we used the other piece of cardboard to draw a line set up with a sharpie. Then use a cutting knife to cut the cardboard through the lines we drew. After that, I then glue this and fold it together. Finally, I will stick all of it with a hot glue gun at the folded edges.
We are being safe by using these knives slowly and using hot glue guns without getting the glue on our fingers.
I have learned how to use and put a normal setted 2D cardboard and build it to a 3D box.
Today, I just started to use Inkscape. I created a snowflake with Inkscape magical tools. Even though it was not perfect, I think it was pretty perfect because it was my first time trying it. Now I am going to explain the “magical tools”
First, I created one star that had eight sides. It was also colored light blue or Aqua. Also considered as #00FFFF
After that, I created a circle in exactly the middle of the star I made on the first step.
Then I selected the star then the circle and scrolled up and opened ‘path’ and selected the ‘difference’
And then you will find that there is magically a circle at the center of the star.
Last but not least, I added a rectangle connecting each side of the star.
Creating a portfolio, or blog is a great way to collect all the work you’ve done throughout your academic career. You can include academic, athletic, and personal artifacts or experiences that you want to share with a wider audience. This is a great way to organize all your learning in one place and you can take it with you when you leave SAS. When you make your portfolio, you create posts that are categorized according to your subject. Some categories have already been set up for you, but if you need more categories you can add them as needed. It’s important that your posts have the following:
An engaging title – this should not include the name of the subject since this is referenced in the category. Think of this as the first opportunity to engage and hook your reader!
Body – this is where you share your learning. This should include a combination of text and media in the form of images, graphics, and embedded videos. You should always consider how your post looks to your audience. Is it engaging and organized? Do they want to keep reading?
Category – select one that has been set for you or add a new category. Posts can have more than one category e.g. Humanities and Myself as a Learner
Tags – create tags that can be used as keywords to describe your post. Tags help organize your post a little more! Aim to have 3-5 tags for each post. For example, if you are posting about a novel you wrote, you might want the following tags: #Fiction, #MurderMystery, #Theme, #PlotDiagram
