Social Media and Teens Mental Health

Social Media Influence Teen Mental Health

Social media impacts teen mental health by helping them to connect more people around the world. Although, it cause many harms like anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. These things are affected by comparisons and cyberbullying of how people in social media thinks everyone has to be “perfect”.

Mental Health Stigma

Mental health stigma happens because when people often don’t understand mental illnesses, they will believe in wrong ideas from the social media. This causes fear and discrimination. Which makes it hard for people that will need support and need help to ask for it.

Mental Health Conditions

After this mental health unit, I learned that mental health conditions affect how people think and feel. Everyone can think differently but some how it might not be good. They are important because understanding these mental health conditions helps reduce stigma. While this can encourage people to seek help, support the community.

HIGHSCHOOLERS Impact on Phone

My evidence revealed about the impact of cell phones on teen social-emotional health and relationships was negative. What I received is that during a 9th grader’s interview, she said that she doesn’t really get distracted by cell phones in class, although she see’s a lot of her friends playing their cell phones in class.

I believe that when we increase cell phone access in class, it might impact a decrease of real-life communication, and leading to less and less contact with in each other. It also decreases the amount of attention that students are paying in class, students often gets distracted by cell-phones. According to an article I recently read, Algebra I students at Edgewater High School in Florida must leave their backpacks and phones at the front of the room, keeping only school-issued laptops. This is part of a statewide policy prohibiting student cellphone use during instructional time, which educators say has led to improved student engagement, reduced apathy, and better mental health. Although, once we start to increase the use of cell-phones, students will no ever be like this anymore.

I will want teachers to all sort their students phone in a place or just let the school to try ban the use of phones during class, or even for the whole day. Otherwise, I will just choose to put my phone in my backpack and turn it on, just like now in 8th grade, we do this all the time.

Disco Astronomy

The unit Standard was “I can develop a model of the Earth-Sun-Moon System to describe seasons moon phases, and eclipses. And our guiding question is “Why is it colder in the winter than in the summer in Shanghai?”. The answer is that this is because the Earth is tilted on its axis in 23.5 degrees, and since Shanghai is in the Northern Hemisphere the summer is hot but not cold. It’s also because when the Sun give direct sunlight to the Southern Hemisphere then in the Northern Hemisphere will be cold because it doesn’t have sunlight. So if the Sun give direct sunlight to the Northern Hemisphere it will be the opposite. Also it has to do something with the rotate of the Earth, because the Sun doesn’t move but the Earth moves. So when the Earth moves shanghai will rotate and receive direct sunlight or indirect sunlight

Welcome to Your New Portfolio!

Why have a digital portfolio at SAS?

Creating a portfolio, or blog is a great way to collect all the work you’ve done throughout your academic career. You can include academic, athletic, and personal artifacts or experiences that you want to share with a wider audience. This is a great way to organize all your learning in one place and you can take it with you when you leave SAS.  When you make your portfolio, you create posts that are categorized according to your subject. Some categories have already been set up for you, but if you need more categories you can add them as needed. It’s important that your posts have the following:

  • An engaging title – this should not include the name of the subject since this is referenced in the category. Think of this as the first opportunity to engage and hook your reader!
  • Body – this is where you share your learning. This should include a combination of text and media in the form of images, graphics, and embedded videos. You should always consider how your post looks to your audience. Is it engaging and organized? Do they want to keep reading?
  • Category – select one that has been set for you or add a new category. Posts can have more than one category e.g. Humanities and Myself as a Learner
  • Tags – create tags that can be used as keywords to describe your post. Tags help organize your post a little more! Aim to have 3-5 tags for each post. For example, if you are posting about a novel you wrote, you might want the following tags: #Fiction, #MurderMystery, #Theme, #PlotDiagram
