In this unit we get to choose our own topic based on our own interest. I chose the topic of “How did misinformation and real-time reporting on social media impact journalism between 2020-2024?” Based on this topic I learned about Rise of Misinformation,Real-time Reporting,Social Media Algorithms etc. I challenged myself by completing the L4 option presenting a ppt. It went really well and i demonstrated my learning by presenting a presentation on my topic.

In this unit we had a debate on the topic that we chose. Our group chose the topic of should we have mandatory voting. I learned that when people are forced to vote, they might not take the time to understand the issues, which can lower the quality of decisions made in elections. I demonstrated my learning by thoroughly researching these points, using clear examples, and presenting my arguments confidently. This experience helped me improve my critical thinking and communication skills, as I had to present my speech clearly and respond thoughtfully. Overall, I felt I grew as a debater by participating in the round.

Health Project Reflection

I used to think that media didn’t really affect teen mental health, but now I think it has a big impact. Social media, movies, and ads often show perfect lives and looks, which can make teens feel bad about themselves. When they see these images, they might compare themselves to others and feel anxious or sad. I also used to think that mental health stigma was just a misunderstanding, but now I believe it comes from fear and old beliefs. Many people think having a mental health issue means you’re weak or not trying hard enough. To reduce this stigma, we need to talk openly about mental health, share stories of recovery, and teach others about these conditions. Additionally, I used to think mental health problems were rare, but now I realize they are more common than I thought. Learning about conditions like anxiety and depression has shown me that many people, including friends and family, can be affected. It’s important for teens to understand mental health because it helps them recognize when they or someone else might need help, fostering a kinder and more supportive environment.

Reflection

The evidence suggests that cell phone use has a measurable impact on teen social-emotional health and relationships. This could mean that increased time spent on phones, social media, or other digital activities may negatively affect things like mood, emotional regulation, social skills, and relationship quality for teenagers.

I think that if people have even more access to cell phones next year, it could negatively impact my own feelings and relationships. I believe my teachers and/or parents would agree with this idea. They probably recognize that too much phone use can cause problems for teenagers, like making it hard to interact with others in person or control how much time is spent on devices.

This could include setting limits on my phone use, avoiding using it during important activities, finding other ways to socialize, and being more aware of when and how I use my device.

About seven-in-ten (72%) say that students being distracted by cellphones is a major problem in their classroom, compared with 33% of middle school teachers and 6% of elementary school teachers.

Approximately 75% of high school teachers report cellphone distractions as a major issue.

Penguin Estate

The African penguins are endangered because people are stealing their guano. Guano is their poop, in the past African penguin use their guano to make a wall to protect themselves from the sun, nowadays people are stealing the guano to grow vegetables. So the penguins don’t get protected and die because of the sun.We are making a nest for the African penguin to protect them from the sun when people steal their guano. You need to know which insulator is the best to keep away the sun from the nest, to choose the best insulator to make the nest. How to we check which insulator is the best choice for the penguins? Now i will tell you.  First we weigh the mass of each ice and then we put an ice into each insulator and put them under the sun. After 20 min we take the insulator back from the sun and weigh the ice again, and then we compare the weigh of the ice now and the weigh of the ice before and see which one melts the least. Grade 6 design different types of penguin nest to protect them come and vote!

Spinner Dolphins

I learned about the endangered animal (spinner dolphins), the population of the endangered animal are decreasing very fast. We have the responsibility to protect them. The number of spinner dolphins is only up to 3651 left. Want to learn more than click on the link to see how should we protect them.

Welcome to Your New Portfolio!

Why have a digital portfolio at SAS?

Creating a portfolio, or blog is a great way to collect all the work you’ve done throughout your academic career. You can include academic, athletic, and personal artifacts or experiences that you want to share with a wider audience. This is a great way to organize all your learning in one place and you can take it with you when you leave SAS.  When you make your portfolio, you create posts that are categorized according to your subject. Some categories have already been set up for you, but if you need more categories you can add them as needed. It’s important that your posts have the following:

  • An engaging title – this should not include the name of the subject since this is referenced in the category. Think of this as the first opportunity to engage and hook your reader!
  • Body – this is where you share your learning. This should include a combination of text and media in the form of images, graphics, and embedded videos. You should always consider how your post looks to your audience. Is it engaging and organized? Do they want to keep reading?
  • Category – select one that has been set for you or add a new category. Posts can have more than one category e.g. Humanities and Myself as a Learner
  • Tags – create tags that can be used as keywords to describe your post. Tags help organize your post a little more! Aim to have 3-5 tags for each post. For example, if you are posting about a novel you wrote, you might want the following tags: #Fiction, #MurderMystery, #Theme, #PlotDiagram
