Katie’s Great Work in Semester 1.5

Vision Board

Language Arts Artifacts

This link goes to the storyboard that my group and I made for our movie. We collaborated with AI and created a movie idea. I am really proud of this project since it took lots of work, and I enjoyed making it. You can see more if you scan the QR code with our writings and our movie poster.

Science Artifacts

Active Learner Improvment

My science notebook is a well-organized, carefully created artifact of my learning in science class this school year.

 Evidence of Active Learner Habits

Here is my active learner self-assessment

grades
highlighted=submitted late

The evidence demonstrates my growth in being an active learner. In semester one, I had many late assignments. But throughout the school year, I’ve improved a lot.

Math IM8 Artifacts

The artifact is my retake for the exponents quiz, which demonstrates my understanding of exponent rules and their application in simplifying expressions. While working on this artifact, I learned how to apply properties like the product of powers and power of a power, which are essential for solving more complex problems. I faced challenges in remembering the rules correctly, but I overcame them by practicing with additional problems and seeking help from my teacher. This retake shows my progress in math, as it reflects my improved grasp of exponents compared to my initial attempt. I chose this artifact for my portfolio because it highlights my dedication to understanding a challenging concept and represents my growth in math throughout the year.

 Organization

*show notebook(s)*

My notebook shows my organization skills by keeping all my math notes neat and easy to find. I use headings, bullet points, and color coding to highlight important concepts. This helps me study better and track my progress in math. I chose this notebook because it reflects how I’ve improved in staying organized and prepared for class.

Specials: Design Tech

Empathize

Special: PE

I am really active in PE. In PE, I always meet the standards, and even exceed the standards. I think that I do well in PE because I always try my best and stay active throughout the entire class each day. In the swimming unit, even though I swim outside of school, I think that l improved a lot in water polo. I was able to enhance my techniques and collaborate well with my team mates so l was able to achieve a grade a little higher than a meeting.

French Artifacts

This is a spelling text that we do every two classes during French. I have improved since last year by only getting red and yellow stickers and this year by getting yellows and green.

Skills Used:
-grammar of comparing and contrasting sentences
-eleborating skills
-new vocab
-pronounciation

The second artifact I chose for my portfolio is my project on “Les femmes dans la WWI.” This project shows how important women were during the war, from working in factories to helping as nurses. While working on it, I learned about their contributions and found it difficult to organize my research. I overcame this by working with classmates and getting help from my teacher. This project highlights my growth in understanding history and my commitment to learning about these important topics.

Skills Used:
-past tense conjugation
-vocabulary

health unit 3 project reflection

I used to think that media only is used as entertainment for teens, but now I think it really influences their mental health by creating unrealistic standards and showing them negativity that they are bad, which can lead to anxiety, depression, and many other mental disorders. I also used to think mental health stigma was just about misunderstanding, but now I believe it’s in peoples brains that mental illness with are equal to weakness and wierdness. To reduce stigma, we need to promote more awareness and normalize conversations about mental health. Also, I used to think mental health conditions were rare, but now I realize they are common and understanding them is really important for teens. Knowing this makes the teens more comfortable to seek help, support others, and wish for better mental health resources, making a healthier environment for all teens.

WOOP Goal Reflection

In the past few units of health class, we have been setting WOOP goals to help with our well being. My goal was to wake up every day at 6:30 and finish fitness or whatever homework I didn’t do last night. The biggest obstacle was I couldn’t wake up so early because I kept watching my phone at night and couldn’t sleep.

This is my wellness goal (above). I focused on organization and rest and play sections since I feel like it is really important always to be on time and get enough sleep for the next day so I can focus in school and get better grades.

Car Race Reflection Post

This is our Race Car for the Ratios Project. Our first racer’s speed and rate were off a lot so the three racers after her needed to speed up. Our car didn’t fall apart and all of us could fit inside it. Overall our calculations were correct but if we were to do it again we would use the time trail class time more wisely and not fool around.

Box for DT

This is the box I made in design tech to put all my things in. I made it with recycled cardboard. We traced the template first, then we cut it with a ruler to create the straight lines, then we glued together the triangles that were sticking out.

Defending the Clown

I did good on making graphs and making the reasoning, claim, and statistical question. Next time I will work on making it look better and change the colors into colors that match the theme.

Welcome to Your New Portfolio!

Why have a digital portfolio at SAS?

Creating a portfolio, or blog is a great way to collect all the work you’ve done throughout your academic career. You can include academic, athletic, and personal artifacts or experiences that you want to share with a wider audience. This is a great way to organize all your learning in one place and you can take it with you when you leave SAS.  When you make your portfolio, you create posts that are categorized according to your subject. Some categories have already been set up for you, but if you need more categories you can add them as needed. It’s important that your posts have the following:

  • An engaging title – this should not include the name of the subject since this is referenced in the category. Think of this as the first opportunity to engage and hook your reader!
  • Body – this is where you share your learning. This should include a combination of text and media in the form of images, graphics, and embedded videos. You should always consider how your post looks to your audience. Is it engaging and organized? Do they want to keep reading?
  • Category – select one that has been set for you or add a new category. Posts can have more than one category e.g. Humanities and Myself as a Learner
  • Tags – create tags that can be used as keywords to describe your post. Tags help organize your post a little more! Aim to have 3-5 tags for each post. For example, if you are posting about a novel you wrote, you might want the following tags: #Fiction, #MurderMystery, #Theme, #PlotDiagram
