It's ok not to be ok.

Introduction

The purpose of my conference is to… student to explain why they are here and what they want to share with their parents about their learning journey.

I’d like to share:

  • What I’ve done and what I still want to achieve
  • Some areas of growth, struggles, and some of my work
  • My goals and how I plan to achieve them

My Vision Board

Some of the things included on my vision board are:

  • I chose the word growth because its good for representing my next year.
  • I chose a picture with a few of my closest friends to appreciate people close to me
  • I chose a picture of my art because it is one of my favorite hobbies.

These are important because:

My Goals Are:

  1. Full MAP test scores
  2. Read more every night
  3. Find a new sport and join the team

Here is evidence of how I was able to start to make progress towards my goals: JV1 team along with working with varsity (football), I read a book a week and I’m much closer to getting full MAP test scores.

Transdisciplinary Transfer Goal (TTG)

The TTG I chose to reflect upon throughout the year is…

The TTG I chose to reflect upon throughout the year is creative thinker, which I demonstrated through math, language arts, science, and social studies. I used innovative approaches to solve problems, express ideas, and explore new concepts in each subject.

Artifact 1 – The Before and AfterMy Goals for Student Led Conferences

Core Subject: Language Arts 📖

I chose this essay to showcase my progress in language arts. This essay I did rather well, since I was able to understand the asignment and provide a well written essay. I think I used a lot of good vocabulary, and not a single pronoun or be verb. In addition, I was able to connect each story back to my moral dillema which is the main point of this essay.

Core Subject: Social Studies 🌏

I will now share my progress in Social Studies…Artifact 1 – The Before and AfterMy Goals for Student Led Conferences

I chose the essay to demonstrate my analysis of women’s rights and engagement before, during, and after World War I. In this essay, I explored how women’s roles evolved during these periods, highlighting key movements and influential figures. This project reflects my ability to engage with class material and effectively articulate my understanding in a clear and organized manner.

I chose my debate speech for social studies because it demonstrated my creative thinking and my ability to collaborate effectively with my teammates. This project allowed me to explore diverse perspectives and develop compelling arguments while working closely with others to refine our ideas and present a unified position.

Core Subject: Math

I chose this because the CER relates to my ability to create claim, evidence reasoning in math terminology and proving my claim in math. In addition, I learned how to use factual points on a graph and using word explantions while writing this CER as it proves my learning. This also helps me prove how I can demonstrate my learning on building CERs with factual evidence.

Define:

The design phase translates ideas into detailed plans and visual representations. It sets the foundation for developing a functional and appealing product.

Emphasis:

Emphasizing user needs ensures that the final design is relevant and effective. This user-centered approach helps to align the product with real-world requirements.

Ideate:

Brainstorming sessions cultivate a range of creative ideas for the project. This phase encourages open-mindedness and collaboration among team members.

Prototype:

Emphasizing user needs ensures that the final design is relevant and effective. This user-centered approach helps to align the product with real-world requirements.

Test:

From the Battle Bot project, I discovered the importance of finding and defining design specifications in innovating under prescribed limitations. Being a member of Team Pink, my task was to design a battling robot under strict size constraints—max 15 cm dimensions and 30 cm long arm. I learned in this experience to design within limits effectively, creating and designing components in programs like Fusion 360 that were suitable for the requirements of the project. Not only did the development of a functional gearbox enhance our bot’s speed and agility, but it also advanced my mechanical understanding and technical skills.

Collaboration was another critical aspect of this project since in working as a team we could share ideas with one another and design collaboratively. Product analysis of existing Battle Bots enabled us to identify not just good design features but also pitfalls to steer clear of, in creating an aesthetically pleasing robot. We also thought about the environment by choosing materials wisely and ensuring that our design was child-friendly. The project was a rewarding experience that incorporated creativity, technicality, and teamwork and has prepared me for future design and technology challenges.

Chinese:

I chose a reading study for Chinese to demonstrate my ability to read effectively and use strong vocabulary while answering questions. Through this project, I was able to engage with the text more deeply and showcase my progress in understanding the language. It also highlights my skill in constructing complete and coherent responses to the material.

PE

I received a 4 on my volleyball and basketball unit, which demonstrates my strong understanding of the skills and strategies involved in both sports. This high score reflects my ability to effectively apply techniques during practice and games, as well as my knowledge of the rules and teamwork required for success. It showcases my dedication to improving my athletic performance and my commitment to learning in physical education.

Passion project 4.0:

im doing a painting motorbike journey around shanghai. It’s very interesting and it demonstrates my creative ideas. My passion project is centered around my love for painting, motorbiking, photography, etc. This means I chose a good passion project that is both presentable and nice.

My Strengths 💪🏻:

Here are some of my strengths.

  • I am very creative. This allows me to finish a lot of projects with varying solutions and interesting perspectives.
  • I can quickly adapt to new ideas and plans (I am a fairly fast learner.) New subjects taught to me are fast and simple for me to understand.

Areas of Growth

Some of the skills I would like to grow in are…

Organization

I lose a lot of things and have trouble figuring out what is due when

Growing

Sometimes I have am too hard on myself and don’t give myself grace and the space to fail before I learn.

Closing

Thank you for listening to my progress towards my goals over the last year. Do you have any questions?

Art reflection

I learned about some interesting things, such as how to revive clay, make intricate coils, and a basic pinch pot. In addition, I demonstrated my ability to be a creative learner since I created many cool and interesting sculptures, such as the hand I created. I also thought of the idea to include flower sculptures onto my design, which makes it really interesting. In the end, I actively sought out to create a creative design and whatnot.

Mental health

I used to think that mental health was something that people could get over quickly, as I never saw people actually dealing with mental health. I also used to believe mental health wasn’t very important and it didn’t affect many people. Now, after learning, I realized that mental health is extremely severe and it impacts a large percent of our population. This is extremely important to student’s study and life habits, along with adults and older people.

Mental health can’t be just gotten over with, as conditions such as anxiety and depression are very real and common. Those conditions can’t be fixed with simple words such as “try harder” or “just stop it.” This is completely different from what I used to think, as many influencers keep saying you can get over it by just trying harder. Social media especially can lead teens to believe it is nothing.

I also got to learn the symptoms of mental health, and realized that more people around me carry those symptoms than I thought

My math assesment

What math did you use for this project?
I used ratio and rates to figure out how much cardboard I need. I also used rates to make my prediction off of how slow or fast I should walk.
If you could re-do this project, what changes would you make during your timed trials to help your prediction for the final race?
I would have walked a way longer distance for my timed trial in order to get the distance closer to like it was on the track.
What units of measure did you use during your timed trials?
I used meters.
How important were units in your process?
Units were very important, because I’m glad I didn’t used feet or centimeters
What happened to groups that didn’t include units on their paper?
They’re not sure how fast they need to go because they don’t know their units.

About me

  1. We learned about contrast so I used a dark background and created contrast.
  2. We learned about alignment so I used keynote’s grid to create the symmetrical look.
  3. We leaned about positioning, so I used the grid to get it to work.
