WOOP Goal 2 – Healthy Relationships

The wellness Compass Statement that I chose to work on is “I am able to resolve conflict in a productive way with family and friends.” The desired outcome that I wished or was being able to solve conflicts and talk through them so they don’t continue.

I believe that I was able to have the desired outcome that I wished for. I chose this specific goal because as the only child in my family, my parents are the only people that I can share my thoughts and feelings to. But because of our age gap, there are many times where I think it is hard communicating with them and often have a lot of conflicts.

This is what I did to achieve this outcome:

Whenever I am in an argument with my parents, I try to think of the topic from their point of view. I was able to control myself and talk more nicely even though I might not have been feeling very calm at that time. I would then know why they might disagree. And if I still disagree with them, I can tell them what I think and why I think that way and most of the time they would also understand.

Setting up this goal was really beneficial for me as I saw a big growth in my relationship with my parents.

Mental Health Reflection

Summarize this semester

In this semester, we learned about all sorts of mental health conditions. Before taking this course, I had many misconceptions—I believed mental health disorders were rare and even considered them somewhat “abnormal”. However, through our lessons, I now understand that mental health conditions are far more common than I thought. In fact, millions of people worldwide experience them, and without proper care and treatment, anyone can be affected. This realization has made me more empathetic and aware of the importance of mental health awareness.

Depression

My group was assigned to research depression, one of the most widespread mental health disorders. I learned that depression is not just occasional sadness but a serious condition that deeply affects a person’s emotions, thoughts, and daily functioning. Symptoms include persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, emptiness, low energy, and a loss of interest in activities once enjoyed. It can also cause physical symptoms like changes in sleep, appetite, and concentration. Depression can stem from genetic, biological, environmental, and psychological factors, and without treatment, it can worsen over time. Fortunately, therapy, medication, and lifestyle changes can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life.

Other Mental Health Conditions We Studied

Other than depression, we also learned about several other mental health disorders, including:

Bipolar Disorder: A mood disorder with extreme emotional highs (mania) and lows (depression).

PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder): A condition triggered by traumatic events, causing flashbacks, severe anxiety, and emotional distress.

Eating Disorders: Such as anorexia and bulimia, which involve unhealthy eating behaviors and distorted body image.

OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder): Characterized by intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors (compulsions).

Anxiety Disorders: Including generalized anxiety and panic disorders, which involve excessive fear and worry.

Final Thoughts

This semester has completely changed my perspective on mental health. I now recognize that these conditions are not just “in someone’s head” but real, treatable medical issues. Understanding them better has taught me the importance of compassion, early intervention, and reducing stigma. Mental health is just as crucial as physical health, and everyone deserves support and proper care. I really enjoyed this semester and I think the information we learned was very helpful. We need to keep spreading this information for people that actually have those mental health conditions to recieve help and feel safe.

Wellness App Review

Evidence of Use

Functionality:
Smile Todo is a very useful and easy app. It can keep track of your daily reminders of work, and set healthy habits for you too. Some simple features include my daily todo and habit list, my healthy habit count, and daily tracker.

Usefulness:

This APP is helpful for me because by adding to my todo list, it allows me to be able to finish my work on time, since my goal was to “be able to complete all the work I give myself everyday and have free time left out”. There was an obvious showed outcome because I was able to finish my work, knowing what I had to do and complete everyday. It is an app that improves both the brain and body health since it can not only help us relieve stress, but also encourage us to get excersize.

Design:

This APP for me is more of a humane design. It is very cute but this app just isn’t something I think people would get addicted to. Though, for peope that have more self control might be more addicted and like using this app more.

It adds value to users life since it is designed to remind you of work to finish and to keep yourself healthy. By having a todo list and a habit count, it would help me relieve stress by not leaving things to the last minutes, having reminders on what I need to do, I keeping count of my habits so I will feel more encouraged. Long term impacts might includes having a better productivity in general and lowering stress.

Demonstration:

This is the main feature of this app. You can create healthy habits, reminders of classes, and due dates.

This is another important feature, the traker. By completing all of the tasks for one day, you will be given a card. Once you flip it over, you can write things on the back, making it act like a diary and helps you remember special moments.

Box

I made this box to contain my materials and unfinished work (my game).

I used cardboard to make my box.

I used glue gun, ruler, and utility knives.

First, you put the templet on the cardboard. Then, you trace a line around the templet. After that, you cut out the cardboard. Lastly, you stick the sides together. AND THEN YOUR DONE!

I was being safe by using a ruler, putting the hot glue-gun on a piece of wood, and I was also trying not to cut myself.

I learned that most pieces don’t fit perfectly, so you need to squish it inside 🙂

McDonalds

This is my statistic unit assessment:

Something I did well was that I was able to explain what the graph shows, and something I need to work on is to check if the graph that the teacher gives us is right or has mistakes.

My Game Plan

This is my game plan:

I am not done yet, but this is a rough draft. This game is called HELP, and what you and the other team player need to do is to be able to all get to the castle, but on the way, you might fall back or/and get into jail. You can either choose to move on or save your teammate. 🙂

This is my infographic for our Science “Save Endangered Animal” Project. Something I did well is that I was able to not scare myself to death like the other presentations I did. Something that I didn’t do as well and could work more on next class is to add more evidence and good sources.

Welcome to Your New Portfolio!

Why have a digital portfolio at SAS?

Creating a portfolio, or blog is a great way to collect all the work you’ve done throughout your academic career. You can include academic, athletic, and personal artifacts or experiences that you want to share with a wider audience. This is a great way to organize all your learning in one place and you can take it with you when you leave SAS.  When you make your portfolio, you create posts that are categorized according to your subject. Some categories have already been set up for you, but if you need more categories you can add them as needed. It’s important that your posts have the following:

  • An engaging title – this should not include the name of the subject since this is referenced in the category. Think of this as the first opportunity to engage and hook your reader!
  • Body – this is where you share your learning. This should include a combination of text and media in the form of images, graphics, and embedded videos. You should always consider how your post looks to your audience. Is it engaging and organized? Do they want to keep reading?
  • Category – select one that has been set for you or add a new category. Posts can have more than one category e.g. Humanities and Myself as a Learner
  • Tags – create tags that can be used as keywords to describe your post. Tags help organize your post a little more! Aim to have 3-5 tags for each post. For example, if you are posting about a novel you wrote, you might want the following tags: #Fiction, #MurderMystery, #Theme, #PlotDiagram
